News: New Chair appointed for Toi-EDA board

Sir Michael stepped down on June 1 to take up a government appointment as head of the review into New Zealand’s intelligence agencies. He was appointed as a Toi-EDA trustee by the Eastern Bay mayors in September 2011 and was Chair from September 2013.

“Sir Michael has made a significant contribution to Toi-EDA and to its work for the interests of economic development for the Eastern Bay,” Board member Rob Tait said at the May 6 board meeting, when Sir Michael noted his intention to step down.

“I, along with all trustees, have enjoyed working with Sir Michael. We sincerely thank him for his contribution and leadership and wish him well in his new appointment.

John, who has managed Toi-EDA since September 2013, will also replace Sir Michael on the Bay of Connections Governance Group.  He looks forward to the challenges his new role as Chair will bring but says Sir Michael’s contribution and support will be missed.

“Sir Michael has played a vital role in promoting economic growth in the Eastern Bay and Toi-EDA will miss his wise guidance, vast experience and valuable connections,” John says.

John will continue with some executive functions during the next few months as Toi-EDA and the Bay of Connections work through the implementation of the Bay of Plenty Regional Growth Study.
