It’s all go in Toi-EDA’s Events Marketing office, with a host of exciting events coming up over the busy summer season.
One interesting new event with plenty of potential is the Whirinaki Quest mountain bike race which is expected to attract 300 competitors to Murupara for the day on November 15th.
The event will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase DOC mountain bike tracks and the beautiful Whirinaki Forest Park to visitors and there will be a follow-up feature on the event in NZ Mountain Biking Magazine.
While described as a race, the event will be kept low key and is all about an adventurous ride in NZ's wilderness. Competitors can choose between a 40km or a 20km course.
Toi-EDA staff have developed a regional events calendar which promotes adventure events including multisport, running, adventure sports and mountain biking. The flyer is included in competitor race packs and will encourage competitors to bookmark upcoming events and return to the Eastern Bay of Plenty in the future.
Our hardworking Toi EDA Events Managers are helping to organise the demanding but popular Bay of Plenty Energy Toi’s Challenge. The annual event involves a run and relay and a fun-walk/walk relay on a scenic bush, beach, and clifftop circuit, and has major prize money of $1500.
Meanwhile, Toi EDA is also investigating the possibility of hosting New Zealand Entertainer of the Year Award at the Whakatane War Memorial Hall and Sport Stadium in October 2009. Another exciting event that will involve Whakatane is the Bike Victoria East Cape Tour 2010, involving 2000 cyclists – all of whom will have to be hosted.
With interest in mountain biking and walking at an all-time high, the Event Operations Manager has coordinated a group to investigate the creation of a network of walking and mountain bike tracks around Whakatane.
Local land owners including the Ngati Awa Station Board of Trustees have been approached to discuss the feasibility of the proposal.
