New events coming up provide something for everyone

Toi-EDA sponsored the first “Winterlicious” dining event. This ran over a two week period in August and was organised by local chef John Lee and event organiser Jennifer Manning. Nine cafes and restaurants featured specially priced menus which were jointly promoted to tempt people to go out and try local cuisine. Positive results mean a “Summerlicious” looks likely.

Whakatane Truck and Bike show should attract truckers and bikers from all over the North Island. Owing to inclement weather the date is now rescheduled to November 14. Interest is high and if this event is successful it will be repeated in future.

Operation Wise Owl saw an open day at the Whakatane airport where the air force was in residence. All sorts of planes were on hand with the highlight being a motorbike - helicopter- Ferrari race down the runway.

Hot Summer Night Street Fiesta sees the event previously run in conjunction with the Tuna tournament being held in February. Mike van der Boom and his team are tweaking a successful formula that will appeal to food and music lovers and provide a vibrant event in the CBD.

Fitness Fusion Ohope Half Marathon will be the ideal summer time goal or a last blow out for those getting ready for the Rotorua Marathon. There will also be 5 and 10 kilometres run/walk options and a doggie dash for the dedicated canine runners. April 4 will be the date for the inaugural event.
