December 2009
The Eastern Bay of Plenty has performed better than the full Bay of Plenty region over the past year over a number of economic indicators including new building activity, commercial visitor nights and unemployment benefit numbers. However in comparison to last year new building consents are down 24%, motor vehicle registrations have fallen, the number of businesses in the area has dropped by 8%. However actual retail sales are virtually on a par with last year and the number of people migrating overseas has fallen significantly.
The December Economic Trends Reports for each district and the region are now available under the economic monitoring section of the Toi-EDA website.
