In December 2009 Toi-EDA lodged a concept proposal for a coastal cycle way with the NZ Cycle Trail Project. The proposal was not successful in gaining funding from the national project however the national team had identified it a as a strong proposal and encouraged the community to continue with the project.
Toi-EDA has done some background research on other cycleway projects and there is interest from local funding bodies in a community-wide project. Toi-EDA intends to initiate a meeting of interested organisations with the intention to form a Cycleway project committee to progress the project to a feasibility stage.
Toi-EDA is delighted that the Motu Cycleway was granted funding for a feasibility study and welcomes the economic benefits this development will bring to the Opotiki district.
