Māori

Māori, who make up nearly half of the Eastern Bay of Plenty’s population, have significant business and land assets which will impact on industrial development across the region.

Their culture and history play a crucial role in the development of the region’s tourism industry. Based on social demographics, improving the performance of Māori will have a major effect on the region’s economic development.

Increased wealth of local iwi (tribes) from Treaty of Waitangi claim settlements are also expected to lead to greater investment in Māori land and other resources, which will in turn benefit the Eastern Bay of Plenty region.
