Background
The Bay of Plenty Aquaculture Summit, a highly anticipated gathering of local and central government, industry professionals, and key stakeholders, is set to take place on Friday August 25th at Te Mānuka Tūtahi in Whakatāne. This landmark event will serve as a platform for shaping the future of sustainable aquaculture development in the region and fostering crucial partnerships.
Hosted by the Bay of Plenty Aquaculture Group, with support from the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Whakatāne District Council, WSP, Ministry of Primary Industries and Toi EDA the Summit aims to highlight areas of opportunity and collaboration throughout the region.
The agenda includes several notable topics including;
Long-term vision for Bay of Plenty Aquaculture and aquaculture development
An update on Iwi led aquaculture development
Education and workforce developement
Perspectives from local government as well as industry
This Summit builds upon the comprehensive stocktake report, "A Stocktake of Strategic Aquaculture Opportunities in the Bay of Plenty, 2022," which examined both offshore and land-based farming opportunities, as well as the required infrastructure for a thriving industry. It marks a significant milestone in the Bay of Plenty's journey towards sustainable aquaculture development and offers a collaborative platform for local and central government, industry professionals, and key stakeholders to work together in shaping a prosperous and environmentally responsible future for the region.
